Licensing options in response to COVID-19
REA recognises this is a very challenging time. We've made two changes to the licensing process to make things easier for some of you.
No fee for suspending your licence
If you would like to suspend your licence for a while, you can do so without paying a fee. We will waive the usual $170.20 (including GST) fee until 30 June 2020.
The default suspension period is 12-months, but you can revive your licence as soon as you like if you take up this option, for example, in a few weeks or months.
Simply click on the button below and complete the form if you would like to suspend your licence.
It's important you read this information about suspending your licence first.
You cannot carry out real estate work, even from your home, when your licence is suspended.
Extended licence renewal period for licences due to renew in March, April or May
We have extended your licence renewal period by 3 months.
The extension means that if your licence was due to be renewed on 31 March, you have until 30 June to renew it. If your licence is due for renewal in April or May, you have 3 months until July or August respectively.
This change is immediate. You don't need to do anything.
(Please note the extension will not change your licence renewal date for 2021 and beyond. If your licence is due to be renewed on 31 March this year that date will be the same next year even if you delay renewal by three months this year).
Click here for information about renewing your licence.
Please note, refunds will not be issued to those who have already renewed their licence.
Continuing Professional Development (CPD)
Licensees have until 30 December 2020 to complete the CPD requirement for this year. At this stage, there is no intention to change this requirement because of the COVID-19 lockdown.
If you want to use the lockdown period to complete your CPD, many training providers offer online learning or Skype training for larger groups
Looking after yourself
The government's new covid19.govt.nz website is the best place for general information about what to do.
The Ministry of Health website is good for current information about how to protect yourself and others from the COVID-19 virus. The site is updated daily.
